Bringing Home A New Kitten ● Essential Kitten Supplies ● Planned Breedings

A contract between the breeder and the new owners is the only way to quantify expectations of both the breeder and the new owners for the health and well being of the kitten.  It is put in place to protect the kitten, the new owners and the breeder.

New Owners’ Expectations of the Breeder

- a purebred Maine Coon kitten with an accurate pedigree that is eligible for registration in The International Cat Association (TICA) once proof of spay/neuter has been received by the breeder.

- a healthy kitten guaranteed free of feline immunodeficiency virus and feline leukemia and internal and external parasites – the only exception is the possibility of diarrhea or constipation caused by a change in food and/or minor upper respiratory infection caused by the stress of moving into a new home.

- kitten will be up to date on its vaccinations having been immunized twice for rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia (feline distemper), calicivirus and chlamydia between 8 & 10 weeks of age and again 3 to 4 weeks later and the kitten will be mircrochipped.

- the breeder has done their best to eliminate cats with hip dysplasia or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from our breeding program however should a kitten die within one year of the date of sale from causes that a licensed veterinarian can document as being present prior to the date of transfer of ownership, the kitten will be replaced by one of similar quality as soon as one is available or refund the value of the kitten at our option.

Breeder’s Expectations of Buyer

- potential owners will be open and honest about the environment and care that will be provided to a PurRydeRoc kitten or cat and will contact the breeder with any questions or concerns that they may have.

- all the essential kitten supplies (litter & litter pan, food, dishes for food and water, scratching post) will be on hand before your new kitten arrives at your home.

- the health of the kitten will be verified by the new owners’ veterinarian within 3 business days of transfer of ownership, the only exception is the possibility of  diarrhea or constipation caused by a change in food and/or minor upper respiratory infection caused by the stress of moving into a new home.

- if the new owners have other pets, the kitten is to be isolated a minimum of 14 days, preferably 21 days, from the other pets to prevent exposure between the kitten and the other pets to new viruses.  This is a protection for both the new kitten and the other pets – the health guarantee is void the new owners refuse to isolate the kitten from their other pets for the required 14 days. The isolation period also allows the kitten to become acclimated to its new environment in a less stressful manner and reduces the possibility of stress induced illnesses.  Slowly introduce the kitten to the house and other members of the household at the end of the isolation period and limit the time the kitten may be with strangers, children, and other animals.

- in the absence of other pets, confine the kitten to one room for several days and slowly introduce the kitten to the house and other members of the household and limit the time the kitten may be with strangers and children.

- litter pans will be scooped at least once a day and dumped, washed and refilled with fresh litter on a regular basis.

- you will endeavour to feed only the best food to your PurRydeRoc kitten and will give serious consideration to continuing the raw diet that the kitten was raised. There are excellent premade feline raw diets available from holistic pet stores.

- the kitten must not be allowed outside except on a leash or in a completely enclosed run under close supervision.

- the kitten must not be declawed, cats that have been declawed tend to defend themselves by biting and can develop other inappropriate behaviors.

- the kitten is to be groomed weekly, or more frequently when necessary, and claws are to be clipped regularly.

- the kitten is to receive at least annual veterinary checkups and receive booster shots as outlined in the kitten’s health records in consultation with your veterinarian. Deworming and any other medical services will be provided as deemed necessary by the new owners’ veterinarian.

- the kitten will be spayed or neutered between the age of 6 months to one year and a copy of the certificate of spay or neuter will be sent to the breeder.

- pictures of your PurRydeRoc kitten will be sent once a year, or more often if you wish, to help us evaluate our breeding program.

- you will advise us of any changes in the health of your PurRydeRoc kitten/cat to help us evaluate our breeding program.

- you will promise to love and cherish your PurRydeRoc kitten/cat for its entire natural life.

- if you are ever in a position where you can no longer care for your PurRydeRoc kitten/cat regardless of the circumstances, you will contact PurRydeRoc immediately so that we can assist you.
